Life doesn’t have to be like this forever

Teign Talk

Nobody chooses to become an addict

Who would want that?

That first time you might have been curious. (Everyone else was doing it, what’s all the fuss about?) Maybe you were trying to fill a void in your life. Or perhaps you were trying to escape… physical pain, painful memories, abuse, stress, loneliness.

And that first time provided welcome relief. You felt different. But it was temporary. So you did it again. And again.

What you didn’t realise is that you were opening a door you wouldn’t be able to close. That the behaviour would take hold of you. And start controlling your decisions, your relationships, your life.

What was once an escape has become a prison.

And the weight of judgement and frustration from friends and family doesn’t help. They expect you to stop the addiction overnight. It’s not as easy as that, is it? They have no idea of the effort it takes.

But…

You don’t have to stay trapped. A better life is waiting for you

Just by reading this page, you’re taking those first steps.

Yes, there’s work to be done, but there is hope. A better life is possible.

A life where you feel in control. Where you’re not haunted by the past. Where you have better relationships and a better working life. Where you feel good about yourself.

Because you are worth it.

Teign Talk: Addiction counselling in Teignmouth

Hi, I'm Lindsey.

I'm an addiction counsellor in Teignmouth, Devon.

I know that life can be difficult. And I know that talking to and working with a professional can really help, because it has helped me through hard times.

I’m not here to judge (I’m actually really hard to shock). I’m here to help you to:

  • Find the right kind of therapy for you
  • Face the reality of your situation
  • Process and deal with uncomfortable and difficult emotions, which may be a root cause of the addiction
  • Develop an action plan for day to day life (and regularly check in on how it’s going)
  • Find other ways to take care of yourself and help you feel better
  • Create connections with others

All in a safe and judgement-free environment.

I have experience working with a wide range of addictions including:

  • Alcohol
  • Prescribed and over the counter medication (e.g. sleeping tablets)
  • Illegal substances
  • Shopping
  • Porn
  • Gambling
